New York & lobster
New York's lobster runs through the Fulton Fish Market, established in lower Manhattan in 1822 and, for most of its history, the most important wholesale fish market on the U.S. East Coast. Most of its live lobster has always travelled down from Maine. In 2005 the market left the historic South Street Seaport for Hunts Point in the Bronx — but the city's appetite for the lobster roll never followed it out of Manhattan.
